Abstract

As the public accountability frame described by Bardoel and d’Haenens (Section 4.4) implies the expectation that the media should serve the public and strengthen the relationship between the two, this chapter aims to depict the situation in the countries under study regarding the relationship between the public and the media sector. In Chapter 3, basic information about Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and the people living there has been presented. However, for an encompassing understanding of possibilities for media accountability it is necessary to take a closer look at the role which the public takes in the given context, thus approaching the question of how media makers can reach, address, and ask the audience to participate.
