Heimat und mentale Gesundheit: Wie place identity unser Heimatgefühl und Wohlbefinden beeinflusst

Zusammenfassung

Aus psychologischer, philosophischer und evolutionsbiologischer Sicht ist die Interaktion des Individuums mit seiner sozialen, kulturellen und natürlichen Umwelt fundamental für die Bildung des autobiografischen Gedächtnisses, des Selbst und Bewusstseins, für die Sinn- und Bedeutungsstiftung und die Persönlichkeitsentwicklung. Verbunden-Sein, Verwurzelt-Sein und Dasein können Erinnerung, Selbst- und Heimatsgefühl stärken und im salutogenetischen Sinne wirksam sein. In der Studie „Place identity and mental health“ erzählen psychisch Erkrankte, was für sie ihr Ort/Platz („place“) ist, wo sie sich daheim fühlen oder wie sie dieses Zuhause, ihre Heimat verloren haben oder nie hatten. Aus den Interviews kann eruiert werden, wie place identity durch Sinneswahrnehmung, Bedeutung, Symbole, Erinnerung, Emotionen, Kreativität, Herausforderung und Faszination, Repetition und Gewohnheit, innere Konfliktlinien, soziale Kontakte, kulturelle und evolutionsbiologische Aspekte konstituiert wird und was dies mit „Verwurzelt-Sein oder Nicht-Sein“ zu tun hat. Aus den Grenzerfahrungen in psychischen Erkrankungen können wir lernen, was sense of place, place identity und Heimat bedeuten kann.
