Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff Transformation (lat. Umformung, Verwandlung) beschreibt in der politikwissenschaftlichen Forschung gemeinhin Prozesse gesellschaftlichen Wandels. Die wohl prominenteste Verwendung findet er in der vergleichenden Systemforschung. Hier werden zumeist Transformationsdynamiken auf der systemischen Ebene, also der Wandel eines politischen Systems von einem Regimetyp in einen anderen (etwa von der Autokratie zur Demokratie), beschrieben. Aber auch sub-systemische Veränderungs- und Anpassungsprozesse, also jene unterhalb der Systemebene, werden über den Begriff erfasst.
