Zusammenfassung
Die Rekonstruktion von Frames gleicht in vielen empirischen Untersuchungen einer methodischen Black Box (Matthes und Kohring 2008). Des Weiteren leiden Frame-Analysen häufig an einem deskriptiven Bias und produzieren lange Listen inhaltlicher Frames (Benford, 1997). Folglich sind die zwei größten methodischen Herausforderungen der Frame-Analyse die Förderung der Validität und Reproduzierbarkeit der Forschungsergebnisse sowie die Entwicklung nützlicher Struktur-Typologien zur theoretischen Einordnung von Frames. Vor diesem Hintergrund zeigt der Beitrag die methodische Vorgehensweise einer Frame-Analyse mit der Methode GABEK® im Rahmen einer exemplarischen Fallstudie. Thematisch untersucht die Fallstudie, wie zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen (ZGO) und ein Interessenverband von Unternehmen die internationalen Handelsabkommen TTIP (Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership) und CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) framen (Winkin, 2018, noch unveröffentlicht). Auf Basis von über hundert Pressemitteilungen von 2015-2017 konnte unter Anwendung der Methode GABEK® (Ganzheitliche Analyse zur Bewältigung von Komplexität) die Struktur von Frames als Kausalbeziehungen zwischen Frame-Elementen offengelegt werden. Daraus ließen sich drei idealtypische Framing-Strategien ableiten: Harmonie-Framing, Konflikt-Framing und Mixed-Motive-Framing.
