Zusammenfassung

Das Auftreten natürlicher Störungen in Wäldern nimmt als Folge der globalen Erwärmung weltweit zu. Die damit einhergehende großräumige Transformation von Landschaften kann tief greifende politische Konflikte über das richtige Management von Natur und Landschaft auslösen. Dieses Kapitel untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen Landschaftswandel und politischen Konflikten am Beispiel der Borkenkäfergradation im Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald seit den 1990er-Jahren. Für einen bedeutenden Teil der lokalen Bevölkerung stellte der Borkenkäfer eine Bedrohung für ihre Heimat dar. Dieser Unmut führte zur Bildung einer lokalen politischen Bewegung, die sich auf das Ideal einer grünen Waldlandschaft stützte und sich für die Bekämpfung des Borkenkäfers einsetzte. Eine alternative Interpretation der neuen Landschaft hingegen begrüßte sie als einen Schritt in Richtung authentischer Wildnis. Diese gegensätzlichen Auffassungen von Landschaft zementieren den seit mehr als 20 Jahren andauernden Konflikt um ein angemessenes Management natürlicher Störungen im Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald.
