Methods, Data Collection, and Measures
This research design chapter provides an overview of the different methods used and data collected in this study. Furthermore I provide details regarding the measurement of party goals and list placement. In the first section I introduce the idea of mixing qualitative and quantitative methods and discuss the advantages and limitations of each method. I describe the broad research strategy used to analyze how German parties select candidates for the European elections in the same section.
