Literature Review on the Motion Picture Industry

Abstract

The following chapter summarizes the current state of research on the motion picture industry, particularly from a marketing and management perspective. The chapter contributes a simplistic, systematic, and more comprehensive overview of academic insights into industry mechanisms than previous approaches. Therefore, Section 3.1 develops a three-pillar scheme to systemize previous findings. This scheme classifies research insights regarding the level of analysis: intra-organizational decision-making, inter-organizational relationships and international industry competition. Section 3.2 presents research insights into intra-organizational decision-making. Section 3.3 discusses contractual relationships between stakeholders and underlying inter-organizational relationships. Section 3.4 shows findings concerning international competition between motion picture industries. Finally, Section 3.5 points out conclusions and implications of the results.
