Zusammenfassung
Psycho- und neurolinguistische Forschung hat in den letzten Jahren verstärkt gezeigt, dass das Benutzen von zwei oder mehreren Sprachen im täglichen Leben diverse Effekte im Alter haben kann. Angesichts einer weltweit steigenden Lebenserwartung und den damit einhergehenden gesellschaftlichen Folgen (u. a. durch wachsende Kosten im Gesundheitswesen z. B. durch die Behandlung von Altersdemenz; WHO 2012), sollte es von größtem Interesse sein, den auch immer größer werdenden Anteil an älteren mehrsprachigen Menschen genauer zu betrachten und deren Alterungsprozesse sowohl in sprachlicher als auch in kognitiver Hinsicht besser zu verstehen. Im Folgenden werden die Effekte von Mehrsprachigkeit und deren Einflussfaktoren in alternden Populationen näher beschrieben.
