Abstract

The aim of this thesis was the synthesis of PAAm brushes with varied polymerization time, grafting density and cross-linking density. Hence, the polymerizations of pure, mixed and patterned initiator SAMs on gold surfaces were carried out in an aqueous AAm solution (with a cross-linker in the feed) at ambient temperature (~23°C) via SI-ATRP. These polymer brushes were investigated using ellipsometry, contact angle measurements and FTIR spectroscopy. Later on the surface morphology, thickness and wettability was determined by AFM measurements.
