Zusammenfassung
In diesem Kapitel wird die Entwicklung der US-Wirtschaft seit den 1970er Jahren sowie ihr Zustand zum Ende der Amtszeit des 44. US-Präsidenten Barack Obama betrachtet. Der Zustand der US-Wirtschaft Anfang 2017 stellt gleichzeitig die Ausgangssituation für den neuen US-Präsidenten dar, der sich im Wahlkampf häufig extrem negativ zur wirtschaftlichen Situation in den USA geäußert hatte. Zur Beurteilung der wirtschaftlichen Lage der Vereinigten Staaten wird eine Vielzahl makroökonomischer Größen betrachtet. So wird die wirtschaftliche Aktivität anhand des Bruttoinlandsprodukts beleuchtet. Darüber hinaus wird sich mit dem Arbeitsmarkt, der Inflation, dem Zinsniveau und dem Staatshaushalt sowie der Verschuldung der Vereinigten Staaten befasst. Auch der Außenhandel der Vereinigten Staaten, der ein bedeutendes Wahlkampfthema von Donald Trump war, wird anhand verschiedener makroökonomischer Größen – wie der Entwicklung des US-Dollar und der US-Leistungsbilanz – betrachtet.
