Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel werden Einflussvariablen innerhalb der Zielgruppe der Schülerinnen und Schüler mit einem Unterstützungsbedarf in der emotionalen-sozialen Entwicklung in den USA näher beleuchtet. Obgleich sich die Definitionen und gesetzlichen Vorgaben zur Schulpflicht zwischen Deutschland und den USA unterscheiden, lassen sich allgemeingültige Rückschlüsse für den Umgang mit Schulversäumnissen ziehen. Ein fachliches Verständnis für die Einflussfaktoren, insbesondere der elterlichen Einflussnahme, ermöglicht ebenso einen differenzierten Blick auf den Umgang mit Schulversäumnissen bei Menschen mit Migrations- oder Fluchterfahrung, die zudem Unterstützung bei dem Erwerb der Landessprache bzw. bei der Bewältigung der vergangenen biographischen Erfahrungen benötigen. Die Diskussion der Einflussnahme der Eltern, der häuslichen Umgebung, des sozioökonomischen Status sowie des Schulklimas auf Schulabsentismus dient der Ableitung evidenzbasierter Handlungsstrategien für die pädagogische Praxis.
