Abstract
The cellular channel measurements in Chapter 4 revealed that channel conditions of cellular mobile networks are highly variable, unpredictable, and sensitive to contention and mobility. As a result, packets that are injected into such networks are significantly influenced by these effects; especially when the sender is not aware of these effects and sends them in an uncontrolled manner. Likewise, legacy congestion control protocols such as the TCP and its variants are known to perform poorly over cellular mobile networks, as described in Chapter 2.
