Zusammenfassung

In Deutschland leben aktuellen Zahlen zufolge ca. 1,5 Millionen Menschen, die an einer Demenz erkrankt sind (vgl. Alzheimer Gesellschaft 2015). Diese Zahl wird aufgrund des demografischen Wandels in naher Zukunft deutlich ansteigen, da einhergehend mit der Zunahme der Anzahl älterer Menschen die Prävalenz altersassoziierter Krankheiten steigen wird. In Prognosen wird von einer Zunahme an Demenz erkrankter Menschen z.B. in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern um 91% bis 2020 ausgegangen (vgl. Siewert et al.. 2010, S. 328-334).
