Die Entstehung komplexer organisationaler Settings ist eng mit der Entstehung moderner Gesellschaften und ihrer funktionalen Differenzierung in Teilsysteme (Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft, Politik etc.) verbunden. Moderne Gesellschaften können nicht darauf verzichten, ihr Zusammenleben zu organisieren (vgl. Nassehi 2011, S. 98; Schimank 2001). Entsprechend sind die Individuen moderner Gesellschaften ständig von Organisationen umgeben.
