Zusammenfassung
Die Geschichte der Computerspiele wird regelmäßig als Technik- und Werkgeschichte geschrieben, ohne dass eine kulturgeschichtliche Einordnung erfolgen würde. Das Medium Computerspiel erscheint dabei als Abfolge erfolgreicher Entwicklungen einer Industrie, die sich überwiegend aus sich selber speist. Eine umfassende historische Darstellung sollte Spiele hingegen angemessen in ihren zeit- und kulturgeschichtlichen Bezügen kontextualisieren und dabei Einflüsse auf die verschiedenen Aspekte eines Werks aufzeigen. Zwar steht das Projekt einer derartigen Historiographie des Computerspiels noch in weiter Ferne, es kann aber exemplarisch an Einzelwerken demonstriert werden und sie in eine Technik-, Spiel- und Kulturgeschichte einbetten.
