Nachhaltiges Entscheiden

Abstract

Private enterprises are the central elements of market-based economies in terms of their role in transforming resources into goods and services. While fulfilling this task, they induce positive and negative effects whether willingly or unwillingly and directly or indirectly. On the one hand, they produce and offer goods or services and, thus, amongst others, provide opportunities for customers to consume; they create innovation, thereby benefiting society in general; they pay taxes; and they provide opportunities for their employees to generate income and develop individual skills. On the other hand, however, the activities undertaken by enterprises may cause resource consumption, waste production, and/or societal inequalities.

Special thanks go to Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Hahn, University of Kassel, for his profound contributions to this article.
