Abstract
The experimentally manipulated emotions of joy, sadness, anger, and contentment as well as a neutral emotional state did not impact performance on a test of reasoning ability. This held for the number of correct responses and the number of incorrect responses. The results did not change when individual performance differences were taken into account by using a repeated-measures design as suggested by Abele (1995) on the basis of her experiences with experiments on mood and test performance. Effect sizes were also small.
