Abstract
This chapter reviews how economic news coverage influences economic expectations. It is dedicated to answering the second research question, How strongly does economic news influence both public and expert economic sentiment?, which is related to path B in Figure 1. The role of economic news in economic expectations is explained in more detail in Lischka (2015, 378– 80) concerning the public and Lischka and Siegert (2013, 175–76) concerning economic experts. Theory and literature are briefly summarized and the results of these studies are evaluated in Sections 4.1 and 4.2. In Section 4.3, the impact of economic news on expectations of the public and economic experts is compared applying an additional VAR analysis.
