Zusammenfassung
Die Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise seit 2007 hat alte ökonomische Fragen nach der Erklärung von Konjunkturzyklen wieder akut werden lassen. Der neoklassische ökonomische Mainstream hat sich an der Krise blamiert, weil seine Standardmodelle für endogen erzeugte Krisen keinen Platz, Unsicherheit und Risiko außen vor ließen. Vor allem wurden aufgrund des Axioms der Geldneutralität die monetären Aspekte des Wirtschaftens als bloßer „Geldschleier“ vernachlässigt, so dass dem starken Anwachsen der privaten Verschuldung (im Verhältnis zum Gesamteinkommen) vor dem Crash keine Bedeutung zugemessen wurde.
