Zusammenfassung
Gegenstand der Interpretation ist das „Selbstbildnis mit Saxophon“, das Max Beckmann (1884-1950) im Jahr 1930 malte (Abbildung im Text, auch Göpel 1976, Nr. 320; Lackner 1979; Beckmann 1993, S. 91). Das Bild ist in der linken oberen Ecke signiert und datiert. Das mit Ölfarbe auf Leinwand gemalte Bild ist 140 Zentimeter hoch und 69,5 Zentimeter breit. Es wurde zunächst von Beckmanns Freund Dr. Curt Glaser gekauft und 1954 von der Kunsthalle Bremen von dessen Erben erworben. Dort befindet sich dieses Selbstporträt auch heute noch (vgl. Salzmann 1989, S. 8; Beckmann 1993, S. 90).
