Zusammenfassung
Frieden und Konflikt sind soziale Phänomene, die sich nur schwerlich von der Warte des eigenen Schreibtischs aus erschließen lassen. Um es mit Carolyn Nordstrom (1997) auszudrücken: „the doctrines of the politico-military elite, the exposés of journalists, and the critical theories of scholars are wor(l)ds apart from the experience of those living and dying at the centers of war“ (Nordstrom 1997: 8). Um Krieg und Gewalt zu erklären, aber vor allem auch zu verstehen, ist es daher von Bedeutung, sich selbst ein Bild zu machen. Im Rahmen eines Studiums der Friedens- und Konfliktforschung kann dies durch Feldforschung erfolgen.
Dieses Kapitel wurde bereits unter dem Titel „‚Ich bin dann mal weg‘. Feldforschung im Studium der Friedens- und Konfliktforschung“ in der Zeitschrift für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung (ZeFKo, Nr. 1, Heft 2, S. 130-138, 2012) veröffentlicht.
