Zusammenfassung
Talcott Parsons’ begrifflich hoch-differenzierter Theorierahmen ist motiviert vom Versuch der Erarbeitung einer nicht-reduktionistischen Handlungstheorie. Es geht ihm um die Darlegung und Berücksichtigung der Eigenlogik der „Subsysteme des Handelns“, deren Beziehungen untereinander und der Klärung der Bedeutung von Umwelten des Handlungssystems, wie etwa der biologischen Voraussetzungen menschlichen Handelns.
Für die Kultursoziologie hatte dies die Erarbeitung eines klaren nicht-reduktionistischen Kulturbegriffes und darauf aufbauend eine Klärung des Verhältnisses von Kultur zu sozialen, ökonomischen oder individuell-persönlichen Fragen zur Konsequenz. In einer seiner bedeutendsten angewandten Kulturstudien über das amerikanische Universitätswesen ist dies umfassend für den kognitiv-rationalen Teil der Kultur dargestellt. Einige von Parsons’ Schülern, wie Robert Bellah oder Clifford Geertz, wurden zu Hauptvertretern der Kultursoziologie bzw. der Cultural Sociology.
