Zusammenfassung
Autoritäre Regime werden in der Demokratieforschung gern – aber keineswegs konsequent durchgehalten – als Autokratien umschrieben. Beide Konzepte haben denselben Gegenstand. In der Herangehensweise gibt es jedoch Unterschiede. Das Bild des autoritären Regimes ist darauf angelegt, die Bedeutung gesellschaftlicher Pluralität auch in der autoritären Herrschaftspraxis zu verdeutlichen. Das Bild der Autokratie hebt demgegenüber auf formale Strukturen wie die Verweigerung der freien Wahl und die fehlende Gewaltenteilung ab. Eine Rezeption politikwissenschaftlicher Arbeiten, die auf Historie, Kultur und autoritäre Institutionen rekurrieren, findet in der zur Autokratieforschung erweiterten Demokratieforschung kaum statt.
