Abstract
Tomographic imaging has revolutionized medicine. It provides insight into the living human body and thereby allows diagnoses – without requiring direct access to the tissue and without harming the patient. Computerized tomography (CT) and magnet resonance imaging (MRI) allow visualization of large organs or even the whole body, albeit the former at the cost of radiation exposure. The ingenuity of both inventions were rewarded with the Nobel prize in Physiology or Medicine, Allan M. Cormack and Sir Godfrey N.
