Zusammenfassung
Innovation ist die Grundlage wirtschaftlichen Wettbewerbs und stellt damit die Triebkraft für gesellschaftlichen Fortschritt dar (Schumpeter 1942; Solow 1957; Tellis/Prabhu/Chandy 2009). Hauser, Tellis und Griffin (2006, S. 687) konstatieren daher plakativ: „Innovation is responsible for raising the quality and lowering the prices of products and services that have dramatically improved customers’ lives. By finding new solutions to problems, innovation destroys existing markets, transforms old ones, or creates new ones.“ Eine von der Boston Consulting Group durchgeführte weltweite Befragung von über 1.500 Senior Executives unterstreicht diese These und kommt zu dem Schluss, dass das Thema Innovation höchste strategische Relevanz besitzt und wettbewerbsentscheidend ist (Taylor/Wagner/Zablit 2012).
