Abstract
Semantic information systems are information systems which use any kind of ontology construction method in order to create or refine their underlying data schema. First, there are systems, which focus on representation, elicitation, and provision of data. Their aim is, thus, to cope with external complexity via codification mainly. Second, there are systems which focus on the recommendation and facilitation of interaction based on these data. However, the combination of both elements, i.e. facilitated interaction with data and automated extraction from user input, finds little recognition to date. The extraction of users’ cognitive maps is either limited to very focussed sets of entities and relations or they are not explicitly used to foster coordination in these systems.
