Zusammenfassung

Ethnographische Methoden bezeichnen ein Bündel verschiedener Vorgehensweisen der Datenerhebung, -auswertung und -aufbereitung. Üblicherweise wird während einer oder mehreren längeren Feldforschungsphasen eine Mischung aus teilnehmender Beobachtung, verschiedenen Formen des Interviews (beispielsweise strukturierte Haushaltserhebungen, halbstrukturierte Experteninterviews, biographisch-narrative Interviews), einer Sichtung archivarischer Quellen und der Aufnahme visuellen Materials praktiziert. Insofern verweigern sich ethnographische Methoden der Zuordnung zu einer epistemologischen Grundhaltung und einem der dichotom gedachten Methoden-Lager (quantitativ vs. qualitativ). Ihre Besonderheit liegt vielmehr in der Fokussierung auf eine ausgewählte Lokalität (etwa ein Dorf, ein Stadtviertel, eine Institution) bzw.
