Zusammenfassung

Auf der Suche nach dem Inhalt und den Grenzen kultureller Identität stehen sich zwei paradigmatische Grundannahmen diametral gegenüber. Die erste Grundannahme besagt, dass kulturelle Identität erst durch politische und rechtliche Diskurse hergestellt werde. Die zweite Grundannahme geht von einer immer schon gegebenen und mehr oder weniger bleibenden kulturellen Identität aus, der durch bestimmte Politiken Raum und Anerkennung verschafft werden müsse. Mit anderen Worten: Laut der ersten Grundannahme wird kulturelle Identität durch Politik und Recht1 erzeugt; laut der zweiten Grundannahme wird Politik durch eine bereits gegebene kulturelle Identität hergestellt.
