Zusammenfassung

Trotz ihrer grundlegenden Bedeutung als gesellschaftliches Verhältnis wurde Arbeit in der Entwicklungsforschung bislang eher randständig integriert. Wichtige Bezugspunkte liefern vor allem die Theorie der Neuen Internationalen Arbeitsteilung und die neueren Ansätze über Globale Produktionsnetze. Eine kritische Debatte dieser Ansätze fragt zum einen nach Potentialen sozialer Höherentwicklung durch die Etablierung von globalen Arbeitsstandards. Zum anderen richtet sie sich auf einen erweiterten Begriff von Arbeit, so dass die Verzahnung von formaler Erwerbsarbeit, informeller Arbeit und unbezahlter Reproduktionsarbeit in den Blick kommt. Damit werden nicht nur Prekarisierungsprozesse, sondern auch die Bedeutung von Kategorien wie Geschlecht und Ethnizität für die Konstitution von Arbeit sichtbar.
