Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff „Integration“ wurde im Laufe der Zeit bereits auf unterschiedlichste Weise defi niert. Eine frühe Definition von Hoffmann-Nowotny (1973, S. 171ff.) versteht unter Integration die Partizipation von Migranten an der Statusstruktur der Aufnahmegesellschaft in Aspekten wie der beruflichen Stellung, Einkommen oder Bildung, während Assimilation ihre Angleichung an die Sprache und Kultur der Aufnahmegesellschaft bezeichnet. Der Begriff der Integration kann sowohl den Prozess der Eingliederung als auch das Ergebnis dieses Prozesses bezeichnen.
