Lässt man Wolfgang Donsbachs wissenschaftliche Laufbahn Revue passieren, fallen mindestens vier Beweggründe auf, die seine Forschung besonders stark vorangetrieben zu haben scheinen. Ganz zuvorderst steht ein Wille, Forschung zu betreiben, die von demokratiepraktischer Relevanz ist – Forschung, die vielleicht nicht immer ‚Wissenschaft als Frühwarnsystem’ ermöglicht, wohl aber soziale Missstände offenzulegen hilft, wie sie durch Kommunikation entstehen, aber auch durch sie überwunden werden können.
