Unter dem Namen Simatic fertigt Siemens Produkte für die Bereiche Automatisierungstechnik, Leittechnik und MES. Die ursprüngliche speicherprogrammierbare Steuerung (SPS) wurde zu einem umfassenden Automatisierungssystem erweitert. Die Automatisierungsgeräte und die Human-Machine-Interfaces ermöglichen eine Automatisierung (Totally Integrated Automation, TIA) von der Steuerungs- bis zur Produktionsleitebene inklusive der zugehörigen Engineeringsoftware.
