Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff der Strukturierungstheorie dient zur Bezeichnung diverser programmatischer Ansätze in der Soziologie, die auf traditionelle philosophische Letztgewissheiten verzichten wollen und stattdessen beanspruchen, theoretisch fundierte Analysen von sozialen Verhaltensmustern und Beziehungen vorzulegen, wie sie für zeitgenössische und frühere Gesellschaften charakteristisch sind. Auch das Werk von Pierre Bourdieu, das gelegentlich mit der historisch filigran ausgearbeiteten Prozess- und Figurationssoziologie von Norbert Elias in Verbindung gebracht wurde, rechnen viele dem strukturierungstheoretischen Denkansatz zu. Derjenige jedoch, der die Strukturierungstheorie am deutlichsten ausformuliert und mit dem größten Selbstbewusstsein vertreten hat, ist Anthony Giddens.
