Zusammenfassung
Die Frage nach dem Verhältnis von Soziologie und Ökonomik ist während der letzten einhundert Jahre immer wieder neu gestellt und praktisch immer wieder anders gelöst worden. Während Max Weber selber Professor für Nationalökonomik war und sein bekanntester – posthum erschienener – Buchtitel „Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft“ (1921) das Verhältnis der Gegenstandsbereiche in einem Atemzug adressierte und die Formulierung dabei suggeriert, dass hier eine friedliche Koexistenz zwischen den beiden Bereichen Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft herrscht, veränderte die wissenschaftliche Ausdifferenzierung der folgenden Jahrzehnte den akademischen Alltag, deren Arbeitsteilung und die entsprechenden Fragestellungen. Parsons und Smelser schrieben Mitte der 1950er Jahre in ihrem Buch „Economy and Society“ (1956), nur wenige Autoren, die in soziologischer Theorie kompetent sind, hätten „any working knowledge of economics, and conversely […] few economists have much knowledge of sociology“ (Parsons und Smelser 1956).
