Zusammenfassung

Die menschgemachte globale Erwärmung wird verursacht durch die Emission von CO2 und anderen Treibhausgasen, die vorwiegend aus fossilen Energiequellen, der Landnutzung und der Viehzucht stammen. Trotz aller Versuche der internationalen Gemeinschaft, die Emissionen von Treibhausgasen zu verringern, steigen diese weltweit stark an. Damit wird es zunehmend schwieriger, das in Kopenhagen 2009 vereinbarte Ziel noch zu erreichen, den globalen Temperaturanstieg bis Ende des Jahrhunderts auf zwei Grad zu begrenzen. Wenn der Trend anhält, sind auch deutlich mehr als drei Grad Celsius möglich (Schellnhuber et al. 2012) – mit erheblichen Belastungen für natürliche und soziale Systeme.
