Abstract

The economic impact of the North American motion picture industry along various dimensions is vast. In 2009 domestic box office revenues reached a record high of 10.6 billion USD, with the growth being driven by the latest advancements in 3-D technologies. The latter are also expected to stimulate further growth in the years ahead (MPAA, 2009a). Over 115,000 businesses support 2.5 million jobs in the U.S. motion picture and TV industry and the sector remains one with a consistently positive balance of trade (MPAA, 2009b).
