Abstract
Studying dissimilarities in the mechanisms of social capital building in Poland compared to other countries is the main objective of this chapter. The investigation of conditions that are crucial for social capital, pursued in chapters 3 and 5, revealed a number of dissimilarities between Poland and other post-communist, Catholic countries. While a couple of aspects are related to (1) the communist legacy or (2) the systemic transition and its consequences such as income inequalities or disillusionment, other factors have their source in (3) Catholicism as a tradition that influences value orientations in strong religiously devoted Polish people.
