The Utilization of “Ketalar” in Geriatric Anaesthesia

  • Chapter
Anaesthesie in extremen Altersklassen

Zusammenfassung

Anaesthesia constitutes a real risk to the aged patient and is a challenge to the anaesthesiologist. The management of the geriatric patient during anaesthesia and the choice of the anaesthetic agent must be based on the knowledge of the biological changes that are characteristic of advanced age. The anaesthesiologist being familiar with the chemical, physical and pharmacological properties of different anaesthetic agents, should select the one which has the greatest potential of safety.

A preliminary report about this paper was presented at the international meeting on “Anaesthesie vigile et subvigile” held in Ostende on April 16, 1969.
