On the Determination of Field Parameters Using a Generalized Fourier-Analysis

Abstract

The deviations of the satellite motion from an arbitrarily chosen reference orbit, which can be generated either analytically or numerically, are analyzed. This is done using a generalized Fourier-analysis. The data thus obtained are introduced into a systen of determining equations for field parameters, e.g. potential coefficients.

This method has extensively been tested on the basis of simulated satellite positions. Applicability conditions, the influence of (normally distributed) observational errors, linear correlation between field parameters and truncation error have been studied. Preliminary results of these tests will be given.
