Abstract

2-(O-chlorophenyl)-2- methvlaminocvclohexanone · HC1 (Ketamine, CI-581) is a member of the arylcycloalkylamines (Fig. 1). They area distinct class of centrally-acting drugs, the neuropharmacologic properties of which were uncovered ten years ago. 1-Phenyl(-1-cyclohexyl)piperidine (phencyclidine, Sernylan) was the first compound investigated in laboratory animals and subsequently studied in man as a general anesthetic agent [4, 8, 9, 12].
