Zusammenfassung

Bald nach der Entdeckung der Neuen Welt gelangten mehr oder weniger phantastische Mitteilungen über ein tödliches Pfeilgift der Indianer des Orinoko- und Amazonasbeckens Südamerikas nach Europa. In Sir Walter Raleighs Bericht über seine Reise nach Guyana (1594/95) wird dieses Gift „ourai“ genannt, das später unter dem Namen Curare allgemein bekannt wurde.
