Abstract
Acute pancreatitis was defined by the Cambridge Symposium as “an acute inflammatory disease of the pancreas typically causing abdominal pain and usually associated with raised pancreatic enzymes in blood or urine” (Sarner and Cotton 1984). The Marseille Symposium included in its definition a morphologic criterion and graded acute pancreatitis depending on its degree of severity (Sarner and Cotton 1984).
