Abstract

Every physical quantity q can be expressed as a product of a dimensionless numerical value qNu and its unit qu

The index u specifies the particular system of units used. We may factorize the numerical value

into a mantissa q Mu and a power of ten with the integer exponent q Eu The factorization (10.2) is by no means unique but it is understood that the mantissa is not too far from one, say 0.001 ≤qMu≤ 1000.
