Abstract
The neural network models discussed so far were all aimed at storing and recalling given information. Memory is an important function of the brain, but far from the only one. Another important task of the central nervous system is to learn reactions and useful behavior that permit survival in an often hostile environment; probably this was the original purpose of the development of the brain during evolution.
