Abstract
Emergency and postoperative ultrasonography has a reputation for difficulty that is not always unjustified. It is performed on patients who may have a reflex ileus or a bowel distended with gas. Thus intercostal views must be utilized to the maximum in order to examine the upper abdomen reasonably extensively with a small sector scanning probe head.
