Abstract

The side effects of nitrates include general effects common to most vasodilators and specific effects unique to nitrates. The general effects derive from the same properties which are responsible for the therapeutic effect of nitrates, mainly peripheral vasodilation. In addition, the alcoholic diluents of some intravenous nitrates may also cause intoxication.
