Zusammenfassung

In diesem Jahrhundert hat die coronare Herzkrankheit (KHK) weltweit zugenommen (Epstein 1971) und überall dort epidemische Ausmaße erlangt, wo Infektionskrankheiten und Mangelernährung als Todesursachen weitgehend beherrscht werden konnten. Hier ist sie zusammen mit den atherosklerotischen Erkrankungen an den cerebralen und peripheren Gefäßen zur Haupttodesursache der Erwachsenen geworden.
