Abstract

Kidneys are bilaterally and symmetrically enlarged three- to fivefold (Fig. 239) after 4–8 weeks of diphenylthiazole feeding 1.03% in pelletized rat chow (Carone et al. 1974). Enlargement is most prominent in outer medulla and consists of dilated tubules arranged radially (Fig. 239). Renal microdissection reveals saccular and fusiform dilations of all collecting tubules in the outer medulla, with occasional distention of cortical collecting and distal tubules. Following drug withdrawal, gross renal changes return to normal in 4–8 weeks (Kanwar and Carone 1984).
