Zusammenfassung

Als Polypen werden alle makroskopisch sichtbaren umschriebenen Vorwölbungen der Schleimhautoberfläche von einigen Millimetern bis zu mehreren Zentimetern Größe bezeichnet. Im Dickdarm- und Rektumbereich können Polypen breitbasig aufsitzen, tailliert und gestielt oder rasenartig ausgebreitet sein. Sie haben eine glatte oder zottige Oberfläche. Das endoskopische oder röntgenologische Erscheinungsbild eines kolorektalen Polypen ergibt zwar gewisse Hinweise auf die Polypenart, läßt jedoch keine schlüssige Aussage zu über die biologische Dignität. Nur die sorgfältige, histomorphologische Aufarbeitung eines vollständig entfernten Polypen ermöglicht durch Zuordnung zu den verschiedenen Gruppen eine präzise Diagnose und damit auch eine prognostische Wertung.
