Abstract

In recent years various international societies and organizations have recommended that a new system of units be introduced to standardize the physical and chemical quantities used in physiology, as in other branches of the natural sciences. Many countries have followed this recommendation, passing laws that require the use of the new system. This International System of Units (SI, for Système International d’Unite és) is based on the seven units listed in Table 30-1.
